Brit buying drugs Brit asked:
I heard that it completly comes off your record after ten years, is it still possible to become a cop though? My lawyer even told me, that if I play my cards right, that my DWI won’t even show up on my record. And, if it does, i could be completly off in two years. I have a hook up with a lawyer.

In Texas…it’s not possible. I don’t know about other states.
Listen to your lawyer.
Always be honest on your application with any police service, because lying will kill any prospect of you being considered.
If your case is pending, do not post any public information about your involvement with this offence, because it may prejudice your case.
Let the judge decide if you are guilty.
If the case is done, attend any information sessions for the police service of your choice and talk to the recruiter.
I know u cant be one if u have drug charges, but seriously if u have gone years with no convictions, of any kind– it should be decided by a judge. Obtain a lawyer if necessary. If u seriously had a clean record for 10 yrs then u can get anything expunged and u can do whatever then. Good Luck!
In my world, YES!!!!!!, I’m in the Army Reserve’s trying 2 go active I have 2 d.u.i.s, long time ago, so far it sound’s like they wont hold it against me since Iv’e been in 21 yrs already!!! I thought I was the only 1 dealing with this kinda crap!!! Good Luck!, Hopefully the Govt. will get rid of the God Complex start letting Good people like yourself back in!!!!!!
Maybe after the 10 years without any other violations. Otherwise, I think you are out of luck.
The pre-employment background check for a police officer is more intense and complete than most. They might still find that old DWI even if 10 years or more has passed.
The best way to get a complete and correct answer for your question is to talk to the recruitment officer for the departments you would want to work for. They will know the complete and correct answer!
