Has anyone had a car accident and hied an attorney?

yes i did. it was a waste of money. he bought me all the time in the world, but i still had to pay the piper. it would have been better to go with the pub. defender.
My car insurer provides me with legal counsel. You shouldn’t have to do it yourself. Call your agent.

My car, owned for 11 months. Totaled.
She rented apartment and had a leased car.
NO credit, no savings, no money.
I got an attorney.
4 years later; they offer to settle.
A. First we have to ask if the doctor wants any of the money.
He said no.
B. Second, we have to ask the insurance company (mine) if they want any of the money.
They said no.
C. Third, we have to ask the medical insurance company (mine) if they want any of the money.
Still waiting for C….
6 months after my attorney got the settlement check, I still am waiting to see if and when I get any money, and how much.
Even if C says they do not want any money (and each time, a, b, c I had to get all kinds of documentation that they each asked for. Some was really hard to get!!) I still have to pay the attorney part of the money before I get the check….
PS The check is about 1/3 of my losses. Car, rental car, time off from work, physical therapy, etc, etc.
Bottom line; without the attorney, I would have gotten NOTHING!!
At least this is something. Even if it takes forever to get. There is always hope!!
Unless you were injured or the other insurance company is giving you a difficult time settling your property damages, I would take care of this myself. If you are injured, you should seek a lawyer’s help immediately. In the long run, it does help that the other person involved was cited, but lawyers don’t need people to have received a ticket to go after them for negligence. Your lawsuit will be about your injuries and damages caused as a result of his/her negligence. Unless you were seriously injured, do not expect this to be a huge windfall, or a quick one. Even the simplest car accidents take 2-3 years to bring to a close by either settlement or trial. Good luck!
