You should be able to get a lot of information regarding DUI’s from a site called findlaw. I have attached the link. Good luck on your project.
You should go to the website for the National College for DUI Defense (http://www.ncdd.com/) which is the main national organization for law firms who devote their practice or a significant part of it to DUI. Find an Arizona lawyer or two on their list and contact them. They would probably be happy to speak with you.
I’m sure part of their answer will be what the same as here in California — it depends on the circumstances of the case, and the county it occurred in. Often a DUI law firm can help a defendant obtain a more favorable outcome. An experienced attorney can help ease someone through the process. Sometimes based on the circumstances of the case and the county of occurrence, a defendant cannot be significantly helped by an attorney.
The crux of the matter, though, is an experience attorney is best able to determine whether or not they’d be useful based on the circumstance of the case.
