Odds are it will be illegal for him to leave the state until the charges are adjudicated.
He makes the adult call. He has to clear up his stuff where he lives now before he gets in a whole world of hurt later.
He has money for school correct? Delaying school might be a good idea because if he screws up the DUI later he might find that the degree will be useless when he goes for a job.
